Vehicle Modification

Modifying your car

Modifying a car means making any alteration from its original specification. This often includes adding 'performance parts' and 'styling'.

You may want to 'make your car your own' and stand out from the crowd but, before you do any modifications, check that what you're planning is legal.

Altering or making modifications to your car could make it illegal for you to drive it and put you at risk of a fine and penalty points. Using tinted windows beyond the legal limit or adding a noisy exhaust can be a safety hazard and cause nuisance to other road users.

You must tell your insurance company of your planned modifications. If you don't, you may find that you are no longer covered by your insurance.
